DANCE DIRECTOR

The Dance Director position is that of a Department Head. All Department Head positions are non-bunk, meaning that the staff member has their own private room. The Arts Director oversees all other staff members in the Art Department.

Department Heads are essential to the functioning of a well operated camp. It is expected that all Department Heads are self inclusive in many areas of camp, and have a full understanding of the scope of the entire camp program.

The focus of the Dance Department is on instruction of skills and the development of technique. The Dance Department is responsible for providing instruction in several different genres of dance to the campers during their assigned group activities and their electives. These include Jazz, Tap, Modern, and Ballet. The Dance Director is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of this program. The Dance Director actively teaches classes and also oversees the instruction of the other specialist(s), ensuring proper and safe teaching technique as well as proper care and maintenance of any equipment.

As with all Department Head positions, we are looking to establish long term relationships that will afford consistency from one season to the next. In subsequent years, the Department Head will often assist in off-season hiring of their own departmental staff.

Qualified applicants for this position should have a strong dance background. Previous teaching experience is a requirement for this position. A successful candidate will be creative, with choreography skills, and have the flexibility to handle schedule adjustments.
